Children/youth

Take the beginner's Stage 1 course aged 8+

Join in with weekly club sailing to build up sailing experience - we also run several after school groups - contact us for more details. 
We are a recognised RYA OnBoard Centre for our regular kids/youth activities.
Club boats can be hired on a pay and play basis and we encourage regular sailing to build up skills.

Increase skills with Stages 2-4 and club sailing under supervision

Once Stage 4 is completed, take the advanced RYA Seamanship course at Conningbrook Lakes or Martello Lakes after which you may be eligible to join our assistant instructor programme to gain experience, helping alongside a qualified RYA Dinghy Instructor. Aged 16+ it could then be possible to take the RYA Dinghy Instructor course and become part of the Instructor team.

Sailing Fun Days and Regattas are also offered from time to time

We encourage everyone to have their own wetsuit, but if needed, those attending a beginner course can borrow a club wetsuit free of charge.
We expect non-beginners to have their own wetsuit and there will be a £5 per session wetsuit hire charge if you need to borrow a wetsuit. 
All wetsuits are disinfected after use. Buoyancy Aids are loaned free of charge. Those who sail regularly are expected to consider buying their own personal buoyancy aid - make sure it has the CE safety mark on it and has the correct Newtons buoyancy for your size and weight.

Increase skills with Levels 2-3, and then the RYA Seamanship Course at Conningbrook Lakes
Recreational Sailing is encouraged once you have passed the Adult RYA Level 1 or RYA Youth Stage 3.

Started in 2022: join in with recreational sailing or racing at the Martello Lakes, Hythe on Sunday mornings in collaboration with experienced racing sailors from Redoubt Sailing Club. Boat hire is available via Cinque Ports Sailing Ltd. We also offer sailing tasters and sailing under supervision of a dinghy instructor at Martello Lakes, Hythe as well as RYA courses via the RYA training centre Martello Lakes Sailing. From 2024, we will gradually be offering some dinghy sailing from Dover Harbour giving opportunity to experience sea sailing in the recreational area of the harbour.

Once the Seamanship course has been achieved, it's possible for both youth and adults to become part of the Assistant Instructor training programme at Conningbrook Lakes and Martello Lakes and become part of the team, and then later become a qualified dinghy instructor (min.age 16) if wished.

We welcome enquiries from already qualified instructors about becoming part of the Conningbrook Lakes Dinghy Instructor team as well as the Martello Lakes Dinghy Instructor team. There may also be team opportunities at Dover Harbour.

We are also RYA Sailability recognised at Conningbrook Lakes for the inclusive opportunities available for both sailing and powerboating on an individual basis

 How to book dinghy sailing

1) Enrol the participant via membermojo.co.uk/cinqueports where you can also download an annual enrolment card.

2) After enrolment, click on the Calendar and Online Booking button below to view and book the training course or session you would like.

3) We will get in touch with you if there are any particular queries or issues with the dates/times you have booked.

4) If you've taken a course or attended a watersports session with us already, you can book another one via your Conningbrook online booking account by clicking the Calendar and Online Booking button below or go directly to webcollect.org.uk/conningbrooksailing  All participants must be enrolled.

From 2022 we have been offering dinghy sailing at the Martello Lakes, Hythe where we have now attained additional RYA training centre recognition under the name Martello Lakes Sailing.
It is possible to book sailing at the Martello Lakes via our webcollect link above.  The same team from Conningbrook Lakes runs sailing at the Martello Lakes also. All Sunday sailing is planned to be at the Martello Lakes in addition to some school holiday sailing mostly Thursdays and Fridays.

Generally, Sailing at Conningbrook Lakes will be on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays in holidays, and after school clubs in term time on Wednesdays and Fridays. Additional days/sessions may be available on request and for groups, contact us to enquire.

New in 2024: some dinghy sailing will be offered from Dover Harbour by Cinque Ports Sailing. Contact us to enquire.
